Sylvia G - Interview

Sylvia G

Clown Magazine:

You've changed your artist name from Milow the Girl to Sylvia G, why is that?

Sylvia G:

It did not translate into who I was anymore. I think I grew out of that name. Musically and personally.

The transition happened when I left the label I was signed to in the United States.

There was no more connection to my present nor my future.

So I decided to turn the page, change to Sylvia G and follow a different road.

Response from Clown Magazine:

That makes sense to do, but you'll have to start to promote your new artist name and build a new presence.

Clown Magazine:

Are you changing your style of music?

Sylvia G:

I felt I had to improve and challenge myself.

Explore my potential in another musicial direction that translates who I am today.

I was not growing musically and professionally.

When you perform and create music it reflects what goes on in your your life,
I was unhappy professionally and it showed in my music.

Response from Clown Magazine:

So, hopefully more 'happy' songs from you in future releases.

Clown Magazine:

What project are you working on, now?

Sylvia G:

I am writing a novel for Young Adults.

Response from Clown Magazine:

Well, from music to novels, at least you're doing something creative.

 Clown Magazine:

Have you got a new release?

Sylvia G:

Yes, my new album SOS, that was released on the 22nd March 2019.

Response from Clown Magazine:

Great! Now you can promote the 'new' songs and new 'artist' name for your audience.

Clown Magazine:

What do you have planned?

Sylvia G:

Raising awareness of environmental issues and fighting against animal cruelty.

It must become part of daily life and the way we live.

There is no more time left.

Response from Clown Magazine:

These are noble causes, you're engaged with.

Clown Magazine:

You are on a yacht and the mask breaks, would you continue for 800km through stormy weather or would you turn back and return to port, which is 200km, but is in shark infested waters?

Sylvia G:

Sharks generally do not attack humans.

I would be more afraid if the sea was infested with people!

Response from Clown Magazine:

We think you could-be the shark whisperer!

So, no fear in those shark infested waters!

Clown Magazine:

Anything else you want to talk about, say or announce to the world?

Sylvia G:

Our planet is beautiful and majestic, but we are killing it!

We have replaced our oceans with plastic.

More than 9 million tons of plastic end-up every year in our oceans.
This number is expected to double in the coming years!

We are burning our forests - rainforests, which are the 'green' lungs of our planet
and destorying what is left of wildlife.

What will it take for you to change?

What will happen when there is nothing left on our planet.

The only way to stop this, is to change our behaviour towards our planet and to change it now.

Not only for us, but for future generations.

Everything in this world is connected.

Every action you take has an impact on another life in your community,
in your village, your city or on the otherside of the world.

We should all be inspired by Greta Thunberg, this young 16 year old climate activist;

"Politicians are not mature enough to tell it as it is,
we cannot solve a crisis without treating it as a crisis...
politicians have run-out of excuses while we run-out of time..."

 "Our house is burning!"

Response from Clown Magazine:

You seem very dedicated to the environmental movement, causes and issues.

Clown Magazine:

We would like to thank Sylvia G for this interview and wish you well - in your creative and activism endeavours.

Sir. O - Forever + a Day - Album Review

Sir. O has released his debut album Forever + a Day, which has an overall grown-up sound since he released the single Please Stop Talking that features on the album.

The type of music Sir. O is making falls into two categories which are either expansive and loud - some examples are the single Please Stop Talking, Lost - while on the flipside he can produce mellower and quieter tracks like Stay, Comeback and Fighting.

The songs are sketches of how someone observes people around themselves, while other songs are more introverted and seems more personal especially in friendships and in relationships like the cruel let-down song Three Words, You're Out Of Tune, Someone Your Thinking Of, and the killer song that is so true to a lot of people in I Can Let Go Of Everything (But You), and Something Is Missing.

Forever Plus A Day has its own space as it's a classically waving your hands-up in the air and flowing to the orchestral chorus moments in this feel-good song.

Sir. O has a nice way of writing songs and say it more poetically whether the lyrics is dealing with happinesses, sadness or even being pretty hurtful or cruel, though you have to think slightly more than in straight-talk, which once understood a smile will break-out on your face.

The last track is Glimmer Of Hope which says Sir. O has gone through the turmoil of life's experiences whether the observer or in the midsts of it, this song is more happier and positive.

Forever + a Day is available through iTunes

Fred Colombo - The Road EP - Review

Fred Colombo latest release is his The Road EP.

Looking over the notes to Fred Colombo you think you're going to listen to some heavy metal music due to his previous work, but he has chose to do something completely different.

Far from being music you step-down into the mosh pit you step into a room full of disco light balls and laser lights with smoke breaking-up the different colours and making them soft to suit the electronic pop with ever so slight raw elements that come through.

The track listings:

1.] The Gate Forever

2.] Kill Me

3.] Within

4.] Out There

5.] The Road

6.] Nightfalls on the Kingdom of You and Me

The Road EP is a twister because it takes you on a journey with some pretty dark lyrics and themes of trying to make sense of hopeless situations and trying, or rather hoping to survive and live somewhat a better existence. The notion of not being able to kill yourself but is more comfortable in allowing someone else to do the dirty deeds is pretty heavy going. But on the flip-side the music is colourful, bright and easily consumable, which twists your mind into enjoying these songs.

The Road EP is available @ Deezer

IIZ - IIZ - Album Review

IIZ [pronounced 'eyes'] self-titled debut album is rather experimental electronic dance music and punk-rock but is accessible to the masses.

The band members are young and what an album to debut their talent. Ison Van Winkle main vocalist has a distinctive vocals that seems and sounds very much from the punk scene of the '70's and through the early to mid-80's. Mari is the second vocalist and her voice adds the mid to high notes that has some good attitude in her delivery. Jacob plays the grooves on Bass and Ross adds the drums, which both of them change and sound different when the music changes from EDM to more punky and choppy vibes.

The songs are alternative and being that the band members are young they are touching on issues and themes beyond their youth, but this will be refreshing to the older listener.

Breaking the album up as the EDM songs are quite anthem let's-cement-ourselves-to-music-history-now-sounds in the hip-hop beat of the first track  Get Away ft. Sen Dog [Cypress Hill], next up is the 4 to the floor beat with head-nodding squeaks in Manic Pixie  maybe some crazy thoughts, person or substance? The Light is the best EDM track that'll goosebump you'all for sure unless you're a cold stone, the song is nicely sung by Mari which describes either a romantic meeting or a spiritual vision. If this what the song title says then going to sleep is probably hard-work as the sound of Epic Dreams MIX1 has a real punch!

There are songs that fuse the EDM and punk-alternative-indie-rock which is the let's raise our hands up in Sugar, and this theme is twinned well in Cure.

The more punky groovy songs are the congo and big beat getting back to a vintage them sounding Retrospective. In this ranting of Color On The Run makes digs at parents or mothers in particular that are not happy with the choices of their offspring, or acceptance of them as people. A more stronger rock sound occupies Want and all of the give me everything now culture that is captured in this song. Analyst a psychological ride probably too many psychologists at school? Though in Man In The Background refers to blending in, or if in a strange place wanting to fit in. Probably the best punk-rock track is Strawdogs on the album. Finishing with I Never Knew MIX1 Voxup has all of the ingredients to end the party with a mixture of keyboards and alternative indie scores to leave you feeling buzz-up'ed!

IIZ is available @ Soundcloud [free for now]

Nenad Bach Band - All I Want Is Freedom - Album Review

Nenad Bach Band is a veteran seasoned artist that uses his art to promote peace worldwide.

His album All I Want Is Freedom is a reflection of his work in helping to achieve peace where it is lacking.

The style of music on All I Want Is Freedom has an array of different styles ranging from dreamy soft rock to 60's influenced pop music.

All I Want Is Freedom is a powerful song of wanting the freedom to experience the good things in life unhindered, like enjoying our time with family and friends.

The next song is a nice soft ballad I Will Follow You, that builds-up into a solid rhythm while the song's core message is too much money is influencing modern life in an unhealthy way.

The title Love Is The Sound is another influence in the '60's when love and peace were very much intertwined in popular and alternative culture back then, and this song captures these basic good human feelings into the modern world, not to be forgotten otherwise we're all doomed!

Thinking about all the different topics of life we all often ponder on is what Yes I Do is mainly focussing on.

Golden Slumbers is a total reworking of The Beatles song, which shows the high calibre that Nenad Bach has as an artist, with his band who are just as talented.

All I Want Is Freedom is available @ CD Baby

Little Shells - 5 Deep Under - Album Review

Little Shells have released an eight track album called 5 Deep Under.

Little Shells is the latest project fronted by vocalist/pianist Conchita Campos. She departs from her two earlier solo albums to a more soulful softer orchestra/pop feel on 5 Deep Under.

There is a heavy leaning to using an orchestra on the album, and in the opening track Another Night, it is used to etch a powerful and sudden burst in the choruses of this song.

Getting pretty urban in the next song Haik (God of the Sea), has a slow double kick drum beat accompanied by sampled piano, trumpet and later trombone that sounds as if they are playing on top of the roof in a ghostly town, but going by the title like a lost ship in the middle of the ocean.

Quite a spiritual song Feet On The Ground is set to another urban beat, but with a different tone added, that deals with the changes in our lives whether we like it or not because nothing stays the same.

5 Deep Under featuring Live Footage is best described as a modern classical influenced track, and has some nice easily accessible experimentation added on the layers of synthesizer and other electronic sounds incorporated into a song that is one feet higher than being buried.

Not departing in I'll Remain, is a splendid folktronica/orchestral themed song. The following song breaks the album for a moment in Lola's Song that has just piano with some atmospheric ambient sound effects set in the background as Conchita Campos sings this nice little tune.

When They're Gone is full of sparks and energy with the full array of the orchestra, as the song touches on the erosion of freedoms that have been afforded us from much blood spilt.

Getting into a very mellow loose jazz song Goodnight, this song will at least make the farewell memorable.

5 Deep Under is available @ Bandcamp

Cantaloop - Avalanching - Single Review

Cantaloop have released their latest single Avalanching.

The song is about things getting too overwhelming in life, especially the struggling aspect and focuses on relationships and their unfortunate endings.

The music featuring the soulful and sonically beautiful vocals from Sam Rogers, is a soft jazz pop funk with a slice of trip-hop to create blissful tones, and is a sound that distinguishes Cantaloop.

There are two remixes by Fun Lovin' Criminals and London Funk DJ's.

Avalanching is available @ iTunes

Milow The Girl - 32,000 Feet Above - Album Review

Milow The Girl has released 32,000 Feet Above album.

The main core of the album's message is to persevere with things in one's life, no matter what gets in your way.

Beautiful World is the first track that will get you rockin'-out, but the song looks at the turmoil in our most unfortunate world, but it shouldn't be because we have many areas of paradise here on Earth.

We get into a lo-fi vibe with Contradiction, that begs for you to look at yourself, however seeking affection but seeing no reflection, kind of tells us that we can easily blend into the background to be unseen and irrelevant.

The songs that are pop-delicious are Funny Feeling, and singing about love but as a big Distraction, crazy Nights in Vegas, and seeking dreams in the electronic dance track Purple.

These crop of songs seem more poignant and trying to gain some navigation in one's life is perfectly illustrated in Lost, and Sad & Wild. Though with Holiday is all about getting away from the confines of everyday stressful living. More strong themed songs keep continuing in Secrets, a soft ballad of strings, and piano.

Another rock tune Blinded, though the guitars are more heavy metal in this song about the environmental destruction we are inflicting on our planet.

The album doesn't wind-down towards the end with a loose pop-rock song Generation, concerns the aspects of more loving than living in hell in a relationship.

Ending-off 32,000 Feet Above is the synth-heavy metal ballad What If (Losing My Mind), which delves into the tortuous and cruel relationships that exists between lovers and partners.

There are two Remix versions, the first is Sad & Wild (Ecode), and the second being the UK Club Hit - Distraction (Allan & Loverush).

The album is available @ iTunes & on CD @ Amazon
